POINTS OF INTEREST
Masks similar to the Mamoiada Mamuthones (as well as the boes in Ottana, mamutzones in Samugheo and others), can be found in other parts of Europe, especially in agricultural and pastural cultures of the Mediterranean area:
- Geros masks, on the Greek island of Skyros
- Kalogeroi from Viza, in Thrace
- Zvoncari in Istria
- Some Slovenian masks
They all include sheep skins and cow-bells.
Some comunities in the Alps and Pyrenees also present mysterious zoomorphic and anthropomorphic masks similar to Sardinian ones.
