ORIGINS AND MEANINGS
The tradition of sos thurpos was reintroduced on the evening of the 25th February 1979, after many years of absence, thanks to a group of researchers (called after Salvatore Cambosu, a famous writer from Orotelli) who wanted to revive the ancient traditions which fell into disuse after WWII.
Sos thurpos is an “agricultural and bovine mime” which does not seem to represent any hidden allusions or symbolic meanings.
It is a theatrical play which represents the relationship between man and animal.
It is a skeptical mime (but also farcical and ironic) about farm work and the daily work that animals do for men.
However there is not any kind of human identification with the animals, nor any magic, not even the tragic magic of “imbovamento” of boes and maimones from other areas.
