THE RITES
On Friday, the most evocative and emotional celebration takes place: the commemoration of Christ’s funeral. In Cagliari, three different processions are organized by three Confraternities. The first procession, organized by the Santissimo Crocefisso Confraternity, starts from the church of San Giacomo and arrives at the church of San Lucifero. The second procession, which is organized by the Solitudine Confraternity, winds its way from the church of San Giovanni, along the streets of the city center to the Cathedral. The third procession, is organized by the Gonfalone Confraternity and passes through the streets
of the Stampace quarter.
On Saturday morning, at the Cathedral, you can attend
the touching ritual of Su Scravamentu, which is when
the statue of Christ is taken from the cross.
