CURIOSITIES
- According to tradition, on Holy Thursday, as a penance, people used to cook broad beans with pork, seasoned with fresh herbs and spices. They ate this meal, but also donated it to the poor.
- On Holy Saturday, to the sound of “The Gloria”, people in their houses used to strike everything with a reed, in order to drive out any evil spirits.
- The enchanting playing of the drums, rattles and matraccas (consisting of a board with rings, that when shaken make a particular sound) create a unique atmosphere. Only these instruments are allowed to be played during Holy Week. The bells, which are expression of happiness, will start to ring again on Easter Day.
