Located 1,3 km south-east of the centre of Chia, on the right side of the Spanish Tower.
How to get there
Take the road which leads from the SS 195 to Chia and the coastal area of Teulada. After approx. 2 km, after you pass the stalls which sell fruit (good-quality local produce), you reach “Bar Mongittu”.
Turn left and follow the road to Chia Tower.
After approx. 800 m turn right, proceed for 400 m and you are at Colonia.
Colonia is a white sandy beach which stretches for approx. 1 km towards Monte Cogoni.
In the centre, behind the baech, near the gardens of the nearby villas, you will see some square sandstone blocks: they are the ruins of the ancient punic town of Bithia, still to be excavated.
Enjoy the golden sand and crystal-clear water, especially on warm summer days.
In spring, pink Mesembriantemio blooms on the beach. To the west, separated from the sea by a sandbank, is Chia pond, where flamingos and other swamp-birds live among rushes and cane-brakes.
