PORTO CAMPANA’S SECOND BEACH,
SU STANGIONI DE SU SALI
(OR SU GIUDEU) BEACH
Located about 2 Km. south-east of Chia along the coastal road, after Porto Campana’s first beach.
How to get there
Take the road which leads from the SS 195 to Chia and the coastal area of Teulada. After approx. 2 km, after you pass the stalls which sell fruit (good-quality local produce), you reach “Bar Mongittu”.
Proceed along the main road. After a few hundred metres, at the Chia Laguna Hotel, there is a cross-road: some signs lead to the main beaches, on the left. Follow this small road for approx. 700 m., then turn left again: a small straight road will lead you to the paid parking area of the beach.
It’s one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean: very long, with white sand and an enchanting sea. It is surrounded by sand dunes, up to 20 m high, with age-old junipers shaped by the wind.
On the right side of the beach, 150 m from the shore, there is Su Giudeu island, an enormous dark schist rock “sprinkled” with Mediterranean shrubs where goats graze in the spring. The island can be reached walking on the sandy shoal which sometimes rises from the water, or swimming for a few dozen metres. From the top you can enjoy a beautiful view of of the entire Chia coastline.
Behind the beach, on the left, along the sand stretching for several km, lies Su Stangioni de su Sali, the other Chia pond.
There are some bathing establishments (wooden mobile structures) where you can rent beach umbrellas and deck-chairs (average price 4,5 €/day, summer 2001).
At the centre of the beach, in front of Su Giudeu Island, you can rent canoes, pedal boats and windsurfs. There is also a kiosk which sells cool drinks, sandwiches and ice-creams.
