INGURTOSU
the abandoned mines
- What: mining complex and village of Ingurtosu
- Province: Cagliari
- Subregion: Iglesiente
- Municipality: Arbus
- Locality: Ingurtosu/Naracauli
Description
It is an abandoned village founded to house the miners who worked in the lead, zinc and silver deposits.
The town consists of houses set in several blocks along the steep slope covered by a thick pinewood.
The beautiful Direction building is worth a visit; it was built like an English castle, with wooden balconies which appear in front of the visitors, after passing under an arch built inside the complex.
The Washery of Lord Brassey is very interesting, along the road to Piscinas, set in a lunar landscape, among Mediterranean scrub and enormous heaps of spoil material.
