MONTEVECCHIO
the abandoned mines

  • What: mining complex and village
  • Province: Cagliari
  • Subregion: Iglesiente
  • Municipality: Guspini
  • Locality: Montevecchio

Description:
Set in the centre of one of the most productive mining complexes which once existed in Italy.
The director’s building, with its beautiful frescoes, and the nineteenth century complex of Piccalinna, in the Levante Mine, both deserve a visit.

The Sant’Antonio Well, with its battlemented towers, the Lodging Quarters and the Sanna Well, in the west valley, are also very interesting.ù
The entire complex has been declared “Patrimony of entire manhood” by Unesco.
