How to get there:
From the S. Agostino district of Alghero, follow the road towards Sassari. The necropolis is on the left, after 5,9 km.
It consists of 38 “domus de janas” or “fairy tombs”: small burial chambers carved inside the rock.
These tombs date from the Ozieri period (approx. 3000 B.C)
They are well-planned structures; tombs are made of either one well-defined area, or sometimes two communicating areas.
Some tombs have decorations – such as false doorways, pillars, columns and bull motifs. The bull’s head is a recurring motif, as the bull was a sacred animal for the people of this period.
